How to run a traceroute

A traceroute can be run to check and see if there are any network problems between your ISP (internet service provider) and the server that your website is hosted on. If you are having problems accessing your own website, run a traceroute and submit the information in a support ticket to us.

How to run a traceroute in Windows XP:

1. First, find your IP address. You can go to this site for it (opens in a new window): http://www.whatismyip.com

2. Click the Start button in the lower left corner of your screen, then click Run.

3. A box will pop up, type command and then click OK.

4. A black DOS window will pop up. Type the following:

tracert

and then a space, then your IP address. So it would look something like this:

tracert 72.462.415.65

Hit Enter.

5. Highlight the info that comes up with your mouse and then copy (right-click and select Copy, or Ctrl+V on the keyboard) and then paste it in an email or a support ticket.

How to run a traceroute in Windows Vista:

1. Click the Windows button in lower left corner of your screen.

2. In the text box at the bottom, it should say Start Search. In that box, type tracert and then your IP address. So it would look something like this:

tracert 72.462.415.65

Hit Enter.

3. Highlight the info that comes up with your mouse and then copy (right-click and select Copy, or Ctrl+V on the keyboard) and then paste it in an email or a support ticket.
