Adding Product Options

Product options are dropdown menus, checkboxes, radio buttons, text boxes and memo boxes (the larger text boxes) that allow your customers to select or enter info to choose colors, sizes, etc. or enter personalization info.

In the AlohaShop admin, products have three pages/sections. So if you add or edit a product, the first page has the basic product info - i.e. name, description, price, etc. Once you enter and update that info, you will be taken to the second product page. This is where options are entered. Once you enter the options and save, you are taken to the third page which is where you can enter related products (other items that coordinate with this prdouct) and the inventory amounts.

To enter product options, we'll be dealing with the second page. So open up your product and go to the second page where the options are entered and follow these steps:

  1. Option Name - Enter the name of the option in the Name field (i.e. "Size, Color, etc.")
  2. Option Type - Select the type of option you would like to use (dropdown menu, checkbox, radio button, text box or memo box).
    • Dropdown menu - There are multiple options to choose from and the customer can select only one option from the menu.
    • Checkbox - This is helpful for a simple yes/no option. You can also use a dropdown menu or radio option for this.
    • Radio Button - Another one that can be used for Yes/No or simple selections.
    • Text Box - A one-line box for the customer to enter text.
    • Memo Field - A mulitple-line box for the customer to enter larger bits of text than would fit in the text box.
  3. Attributes - Enter the selections available for this option. For example, if the option name is Color, then the options here would be a list of the available colors. There is a certain format that these need to be entered if you do it by hand. We recommend using the Attribute Wizard (click the link for this and the wizard will pop up) for dropdown options or radio buttons. Enter your info into the Wizard and it will format the option selections for you. If you want to do it by hand, here is the format:

For a simple dropdown menu of colors, the colors would be entered like this:

    Blue~Green~Red~Black

Basically you would just have a tilde ~ between each option, with no spaces.

For a dropdown menu of colors, where some colors have an additional cost associated with them, they would be entered like this:

    Blue~Green~Red:1~Black:3

This tells the cart that the Blue and Green options are no additional charge, but the Red option would be $1 more and the Black option would be $2 more. So you would have a tilde ~ between each option, but to add the price increase, place a colon : after the option name, then the additional price, then the tilde.

The Attribute Wizard will let you enter 26 different attributes (i.e. colors in the examples above). If you have more than 26, you will need to manually enter your attributes as described above, separated by the tilde ~.

TIP: If your options screen is only showing space for 3 different options, you can go to your "Catalog Setup" (right column of your store admin), and look for Item Options. You can select up to 20, which will give you 20 available options to enter for each product, with unlimited selections for each one.
